The transition to a nursing home is often a major change for both the resident and the family. Our caring staff strives to make the process as easy and reassuring as possible, from your first moment of contact - until your loved one is comfortably residing and actively engaged in life at The Komanoff.
What Makes Us Unique?
We are committed to caring for our residents and their families in a way that sets us apart from other care centers or nursing homes. From our unique programs to our teamed approach to care, you’ll feel a difference at The Komanoff Center.
Benefits of a hospital-based campus
We’re hospital-based; a unique designation that means the full resources of Long Beach Medical Center’s hospital are immediately available if ever the need arises. This includes immediate access to our state-of-the-art Emergency Department, as well as easy, indoor access to treatment services such as dialysis and wound care & hyperbaric therapies. It also offers peace of mind knowing that hospital-based resident physicians are onsite 24/7, if needed.
We have high quality of care standards
For the past two years, the Komanoff Center for Geriatric & Rehabilitative Medicine has earned a five-star ranking in overall quality in the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Nursing Home Compare listing (www.medicare.gov/NHCompare). Overall quality reflects a review of a facility’s quality measures, health inspections, and nurse staffing by federal government organizations. We’re proud of this earned designation and believe it demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards of quality care for our residents.
Our staff are experts
Our staff members are selected not only for their expert clinical skills; they must also embody our philosophy of respect, dignity and compassion toward our residents and their families. This hallmark of caring is carefully cultivated and we believe, is what sets us apart from most other organizations.
We offer a team approach to care
Our team of caring professionals includes physicians, registered and licensed nurses, and certified nursing assistants, working together to provide the highest quality clinical and personal care. Their services are supported by social workers, registered dietitians, physical, occupational and speech therapists, recreational therapists and a friendly, welcoming corps of volunteers.
Working in concert with the resident and family, our team develops an individualized care plan that encompasses a wide range of needs, including medical, functional, rehabilitative, social, emotional, and spiritual. The care plan is regularly reviewed and revised to reflect the changing needs of the resident.
Our teaching program ensures state-of-the-art treatment protocols. Long Beach Medical Center is a training site for some of the future’s brightest physicians, hosting a post-graduate Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine in affiliation with the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. These accredited programs ensure that the latest therapies and treatments are being provided to our residents.
We offer comprehensive medical services.
With our broad continuum of care and easy access to medical services at Long Beach Medical Center, we care for a wide variety of medically-complex health issues, including:
· orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation
· chronic disease management (e.g., multiple sclerosis, diabetes, pulmonary disease, Parkinson’s disease)
· Renal Dialysis
· post-operative care
· wound care
· swallowing therapy
· stroke recovery
We also offer a Dementia/Cognitive Impairment Program for residents with memory loss, dementia, or other cognitive impairment. Our use of a departure alert system ensures a secure environment and our full-time recreational therapy staff offer therapeutic activities to promote mental stimulation, socialization and feelings of self-worth.
Another significant benefit is afforded to individuals requiring dialysis treatment while undergoing short-term rehabilitative care. Because the Dialysis Center is on the campus of the Long Beach Medical Center, patients of the Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine have easy access to dialysis treatment without leaving the building. This means that on cold, wintry days or rainy weather, even the frailest of patients will be comfortable and warm as they travel through our corridor to their dialysis appointments.

Our recreational therapy services are designed to help residents develop skills that enhance independence while also promoting a higher quality of life.
