Joel Benowitz, M.D. serves as Director of Surgery at Long Beach Medical Center and Physician-In-Charge at the Medical Center’s Family Care Center Outpatient Breast Clinic. He has been caring for the surgical needs of his patients for more than 19 years and specializes in minimally invasive breast surgery.
Dr. Benowitz is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He holds membership in the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Kings County Surgical Society, Nassau County Surgical Society and New York State Surgery Society and serves as an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the Department of Surgery at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) and at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). Benowitz also facilitates the surgical teaching program at Long Beach Medical Center.
In 2009, Dr. Benowitz was honored as Professional of the Year by the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and was included in Castle Connolly’s Best Surgeons on Long Island.
He is certified in breast ultrasound and stereotactic biopsy and wherever possible, uses minimally invasive biopsy procedures to determine diagnosis of breast disease. Although a surgeon, Dr. Benowitz believes that the best surgery is no surgery at all and patients should not be subjected to surgical procedures unless necessary. If unavoidable, he advocates for newer and less invasive procedures. In addition to his expert clinical skills, Dr. Benowitz brings a human touch to the care of those he treats, especially those who feel overwhelmed by their condition and the decisions they have to make.
As a leading breast surgeon in Long Beach, Dr. Benowitz has been instrumental in developing coordinated breast health services at Long Beach Medical Center, including patient-centered care for breast patients, the establishment of Long Beach Medical Center’s Breast Health Alliance and its Breast Cancer/Breast Health Support Group.

Lawrence Sirota, D.O. is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His surgical practice incorporates Plastic, Reconstructive, Cosmetic and Pediatric Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Sirota earned his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York. He completed his general surgery residency at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Columbia University-Harlem Hospital Division.
Dr. Sirota is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds membership in the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Osteopathic Association, Medical Society of the State of New York, and Nassau County Surgical Society.
He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Sirota has been a presenter at the International Symposium on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1997), the ASPRS Scientific Convention (1997) and New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1997) and has several publications/abstracts to his credit.
Recognizing that breast disease has emotional as well as physical implications, Dr. Sirota believes in making his patients feel comfortable with their treatment decisions by explaining every step of the procedure to them, offering guidance and support and using the latest technology and skills to ensure the best possible results.

Jen Wang, M.D. is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty board certifications in Medical Oncology and Hematology. Since 2001, he has been a member of the teaching faculty at Suny at Maimonides Hospital Medical Center and has been published in the British Journal of Haematology.
Dr. Wang approaches each patient’s care with a focus on individualized treatment in concert with the latest scientific research.

Dennis Rossi, MD
Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology
Dr. Rossi, Director of Diagnostic Imaging Services at Long Beach Medical Center, is considered a pioneer of diagnostic imaging services in the New York area. In 1984, he founded one of the first outpatient MRI centers in the United States. Dr. Rossi has co-authored many professional papers in MRI and installed and operated many imaging facilities over the years. His diagnostic skills and highly specialized administrative expertise are nationally recognized.
Dr. Rossi received his medical degree from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 1968, completed his training in radiology at Montefiore Hospital Center in 1972, and then served in the U.S. Navy as Director of the Department of Radiology at St. Albans Naval Hospital.
Howard J. Gelber, M.D.

Dr. Gelber is a board-certified radiologist and has been in practice since 1986. Dr. Gelber received his medical degree from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 1979. After two years of medical residency he entered the diagnostic radiology residency at Downstate Medical Center, which he completed in 1985. Dr. Gelber also completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology, Angiography, and Computerized Tomography at Downstate, and a visiting fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
James McCleavey, MD
Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology
Dr. McCleavey is a board-certified radiologist and has been with the practice since 1984. He has extensive experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, digital and conventional Angiography, head and body CT, Nuclear Cardiology as well as routine Nuclear Medicine and all interventional procedures. Dr. McCleavey received a MBA/MPH degree from Columbia University in the Joint Program in Health Administration in 1976 and his medical degree from Downstate Medical College in 1980. Dr. McCleavey completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Nassau County Medical Center in 1984.
Glenn E. Schwartz, M.D.

Dr. Schwartz is a board certified radiologist and has been with the practice since 2002. Prior to this he was Director of Radiology for Flushing Hospital Medical Center for the last 5 years of his 10-year tenure there, and Assistant Professor of Radiology for SUNY Downstate Medical Center for 3 years. Dr. Schwartz earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1979, completed his internship in 1980 and his residency in 1983 at Downstate Kings County Medical Center.
Daniel E. Beyda, MD

Dr. Daniel Beyda is a board certified radiologist that joined the practice in 2003. He earned his medical degree and an MA in Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine, completed his internship in 1999 at Malden Hospital, and his radiology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2003.

Matthew A. Diament, MD

Dr. Diament is a board certified radiologist that joined the practice in 2006. He earned his medical degree at SUNY Downstate in 2001, completed his internship and radiology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2006. Among other various aspects of radiology, Dr. Diament specializes in body imaging.

Martin Grossman, MD serves as Medical Director of the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at The Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine. Dr. Grossman earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Yeshiva University and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine with specialty certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
