Douglas L. Melzer, CEO of Long Beach Medical Center proudly announced that The Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine has been included in the prestigious listing of “best nursing homes” as ranked by US News and World Report for 2010 and 2011.
The U.S. News and World rankings rely on data from Nursing Home Compare, a consumer web site run by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (www.medicare.gov/NHCompare). The data includes a review of how well each nursing home performs in specific criteria, including onsite health inspections, nurse staffing, and providing a high level of quality of care. The Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine received a 5-star rating, the highest overall rating possible.

The Komanoff Center for Geriatric and Rehabilitative Medicine is a 200-bed skilled nursing facility with a special focus in rehabilitation. Programs include short term rehabilitation, long term residential care, a Lombardi Program (Nursing Home Without Walls) and inpatient hospice care.
With its specialization in rehabilitative medicine, The Komanoff Center offers restorative therapy to patients with orthopedic and neurological impairments, in need of post-operative care, chronic disease management (e.g., multiple sclerosis, diabetes, dialysis, pulmonary disease), wound care, swallowing therapy and stroke recovery. Its team of physiatrists, rehabilitation nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, as well as social workers and recreational therapists help each patient reach their optimal potential.
